Meet our Head Chef, Shayne
Our Head Chef at The Chequers Inn, Shayne Wood, was born in Devon and completed his training at Exeter Catering College. His first taste of working in a kitchen was at Combe House in Devon where he started his career at the age of 18. Keen to head up his own kitchen one day, Shayne moved to Alexander House Hotel in West Sussex and then Charlton House in Somerset to name a few.

Working his way up to the position of Head Chef and progressing his cooking skills, Shayne has met a number of inspirational figures, who had a huge impact on his cooking style.
His biggest learning curve was working alongside now Restaurant L'Andalou in France owner and Head Chef, Elisha Carter. Shayne said, “Elisha was incredible to work with and his ethos and attitude towards cooking were a real source of encouragement. It provided me with the affirmation that with the right attitude, the world is your oyster.”

Shayne joined The Chequers in February 2016 from Caley Hall Hotel in Old Hunstanton. He has a great flair and talent for cooking, Shayne’s passion is to cook excellent food, using quality seasonal ingredients, and using local producers whenever possible.
Together with his team, Shayne is keen to take on the challenge and develop menus and food reputation at The Chequers Inn.
