Looking for a dog-friendly hotel in Norfolk? Muddy paws are welcome
The Chequers Inn is a dog-friendly hotel on the North Norfolk coast
Dogs are welcome to stay in our dog-friendly rooms at The Chequers Inn, Thornham. We know just how much dogs and their owners love walking on the beaches, marshes and exploring the beautiful countryside around Thornham. No one will frown over at muddy paws when visiting The Chequers Inn, you can dine with your dog in our cosy bar, snug or outside in our sunny courtyard. We have a number of dog friendly rooms – just let us know in advance and we will do all we can to ensure that everyone has a perfect stay.
There are lots of great walks within a short distance of The Chequers, which are ideal for exercising dogs. Try strolling down through Thornham to the iconic Coal Barn out on the marshes – and stop for a drink in our sister pub, The Lifeboat Inn, on the way.
If your dog enjoys beach walks, then try the beaches at Holkham or Brancaster. At Holkham, you can park on Lady Anne’s Drive and walk for miles along the beach in either direction. If you walk towards Wells, dogs enjoy scrambling over the dunes, exploring the seawater pools, splashing in the sea. There is a lovely return walk through the pinewoods as an alternative to the beach.
Be aware that these are tidal beaches. The tide can change rapidly, and you can be cut off quite quickly if you walk too far from the coastline. Keep a careful watch on the sea as you walk to ensure the safety of yourself and your dog.
For longer inland walks, explore the numerous woodland walks on the Sandringham estate, Wolferton Cliffs, Shouldham Warren and Dersingham Bog. Dogs can generally be let off leads and allowed to enjoy a good run through the countryside. There are few roads and lots of paths giving a wide choice of walks.
Don't forget to us a picture of your pet enjoying their stay at The Chequers Inn and we'll add it to our gallery.
